CAPE TOWN - Lawyers for TotalEnergies were back in court for the second day at the Western Cape High Court.
They presented their arguments on the government authorisation they received for oil and gas exploration between Cape Town and Cape Agulhas.
Environmental lobby groups, Green Connection and Natural Justice, raised their concerns over the decision last year.
They said the exploration posed a threat to local fisher communities and marine life.
Founding member of the Spirit of Endeavour Fisherfolk Women of Doringbaai, Deborah De Wee, agreed.
"If they are going to get the authorised permission to drill oil and gas, it's going to be a war on against the ocean life and against the fisher's community. Now I'm talking about all the fishers' communities, indigenous fishers' communities around the coast. It's going to be a war. For me, I feel like it's a strategic war."
She added that the ocean was an integral part of the fishing communities.
"It's going to be a very sad thing for the community, the fisher's community. They just know one life. They don't know how to survive, everything they know is how to survive from the ocean."
