Man accused of murder WSU students back in court for bail hearing

MTHATHA - The bail hearing of the man accused of killing Walter Sisulu University student Sisonke Mbolekwa will be heard in the Mthatha Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Manelisi Mampane, a residence manager at the institution, allegedly shot and killed Mbolekwa during a student protest on campus last month. 

He was meant to apply for bail last week, but this was put on hold due to a power outage at the courthouse.

Mampane is charged with murder and the attempted murder of another student, as well as the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Last week, the Mthatha Magistrates Court postponed the matter to resolve its electricity issues.

Investigating officer Colonel Mandla Miya is expected to testify on Wednesday.

Students from the institution have since vowed to intensify their call for justice in the matter.
