JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane has condemned the murder of a Musi High School learner in Pimville, Soweto.

Eighteen-year-old Mcebo Biyela was stabbed to death on Tuesday, allegedly by two university students.

While the motive of the killing remains unknown, the two suspects, a 19 and a 24-year-old, were arrested and are each facing a murder charge.

The two suspects appeared on Wednesday before the Lenasia Magistrates Court for a murder charge.

This is while learners of Musi High School and other schools in Pimville mobilised and marched to the University of Johannesburg on Thursday.

Department spokesperson Steve Mabona has called for calm and said teaching will continue.

“We are told that there were disruptions yesterday, and today [Thursday] there’s an element of disruptions happening, allegedly some learners want to revenge in a way, and we just want to call upon learners to not do that, they must leave the matter to the police.”

He added that psycho-social support will continue to be provided for the learners.
