JOHANNESBURG - The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) is set to begin its probe into the National Skills Fund (NSF) as part of a widespread investigation into corruption.
The scope of the investigation includes unlawful or improper conduct by suppliers, service providers, and other involved parties over 12 years, between January 2013 and March this year.
This includes procurement and contracting for the implementation of skills development programmes, training projects and the appointment of implementing agents.
In March, President Cyril Ramaphosa signed five proclamations authorising the SIU to investigate allegations of corruption and maladministration within the NSF and the national Department of Public Works and Infrastructure.
Higher education media liaison officer, Camagwini Mavovana, said, “The SIU will investigate allegations of serious maladministration, improper or unlawful conduct by officials or employees of the NSF and the possible mismanagement of funds allocated to the NSF.”
