JOHANNESBURG - Eskom has announced it will be reviewing its relationship with some of its contractors after falling behind schedule in returning some of units back online, prompting the activation of power cuts.
On Tuesday, the power utility implemented stage two load shedding primarily due to delays in the return of several units from planned maintenance, losing the grid more than 3,000 megawatts of electricity.

At a media briefing on Wednesday, Eskom laid some of the blame at original equipment manufacturers which it has tasked to manage and maintain some of its power stations.
Eskom CEO, Dan Marokane, said that the two previous incidents of load shedding this year were prompted by similar events.
"From our review of the first cases of load shedding earlier this year, it's receiving attention because it has to do with the clinical finish when it comes to execution of the work, from scope definitions, readiness from a skills availability, both on our sides and the contractors, availability of spare parts and the discipline of following through within the schedules that we require."
