JOHANNESBURG - Having endured more than 80 days of their loved ones' absence, the families and colleagues of missing journalist Aserie Ndlovu and his partner, Zodwa Mdhluli, believe that powerful and well-resourced individuals perpetrated the crimes against them.
They shared their views outside the KwaMhlanga Magistrates Court on Thursday, where two newly arrested suspects were remanded in custody after their matter was postponed.
The deceased’s home in Mahlabathini, KwaMhlanga, was also found to have been ransacked as items, including furniture and appliances, had been stolen.
Three of the suspects arrested are charged with possession of stolen property in this matter.
National Press Club spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga said, “To restrain people for such a long period until time when you you take them far away and eventually have them killed in the way that the police are telling us, it shows that you would have needed some power and some resources to be able to do this.”
He said that the nature of the offences indicates a level of planning that would likely require more than one person.
"But also the fact that livestock was also stolen from the house, that also means that there were more people involved. The fact that the car was also taken and it was taken into pieces and the pieces used to refurbish other cars, you can see that that type of elaborate work would have been planned and it would have taken some people to work together."
