DURBAN - The Public Servant Association (PSA) and the Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) in KwaZulu-Natal are demanding justice for the young man who died while on duty at the Prince Mshiyeni Hospital in Umlazi, south of Durban.
Intern Dr Alulutho Mazwi collapsed and died last week while on duty.
It's alleged he had reported to his superiors that he was unwell, but was allegedly forced to continue working.
The organisations are demanding accountability from the Department of Health.
A group of political organisations and workers' unions are gathering at the main gate at the Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital in Umlazi.
The PSA said it's concerned about the alleged abuse of power by hospital superiors.
PSA provincial organiser Xolani Dlamini said, “The tragic death of the intern, Dr Mazwi, underscored the toxic environment interns and junior doctors are facing in this institution."
The association has handed over a list of demands to the hospital management.
