CAPE TOWN - Security has been tightened at the Kleinvlei Police Station after it was targeted in a late-night attack.
Unknown gunmen fired shots at the police station just before midnight on Wednesday night, damaging the building.
Provincial Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile said that more than 30 rounds were fired, but no injuries were reported.
Patekile said that they suspected that this was a retaliatory attack sparked by the arrest of gang members linked to a string of murders in the area recently.

"We've beefed up security here and we've added more of our high-risk specialised forces like your TRT, NIU, POPS and our other teams that are here. As we speak now, they're searching some houses which we think those people are in."
Patekile also called on the community to help police find the shooters.
"We cannot allow a situation where a police station is attacked. But we'll be investigating further because at that time we had a lot of our police members, even the station commander was around, was at the station at the time."
