CAPE TOWN - The Justice Department says the murder of a woman near the Blue Downs Magistrates Court earlier this week was not linked to any court-related matters.
The victim, a 25-year-old woman, was shot and killed near the court on Monday.
Police are investigating the murder and have appealed to the public for information that will assist their probe.
Justice Department spokesperson Kgalalelo Masibi said the department condemns acts of violence.
“The department wishes to clarify that this was not a court-related incident, and the deceased had no official business at the court on the day in question.”
Masibi said the fact that the murder occurred near the courthouse highlights concerns.
“The incident occurred outside the court premises and beyond the designated court precinct. The motive for the shooting remains unknown and is currently the subject of an active investigation by the South African Police Service.”
