CAPE TOWN - Western Cape police stations continue to feature in the top 10 stations with the highest number of murders reported in the country.
Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile released the province's crime statistics on Monday, with 1,068 murders recorded in the province between January and March this year.
That’s 44 fewer murders, compared to the same period last year.
Delft, Mfuleni, Nyanga, Phillipi East, and Kraaifontein form part of the 10 police stations with the most murders in South Africa.
Patekile said that while the murders decreased, however, the numbers remain high.
"We now have an intervention that we will soon be embarking on to focus on the stations that are generating these murders in the City of Cape Town. You must remember that 65% of our crime in the province is generated from the City of Cape Town."
Patekile said that other areas of concern included gender-based violence, commercial crimes, and arson-related crimes, which have seen an increase during the period between January and March this year.
