JOHANNESBURG - Suspended Road Accident Fund (RAF) CEO Collins Letsoalo will continue to receive his full pay and benefits.

With less than three months to go until his term comes to an end, Letsoalo was placed on special leave by the RAF board on Tuesday.

This comes on the back of the embattled RAF office being probed by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) for corruption allegations.

It's alleged some RAF senior officials may have colluded with law firms in defrauding the state entity, mainly through duplicate payments.

Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, Deputy Transport Minister Mkhuleko Hlengwa said the decision was taken as a precaution, not as a disciplinary measure.

"As a shareholder, the ministry, this is a decision we support that the board has taken and believe it is in the collective interest of the investigation, particularly in its final stages, as you are aware, [since] you [are] in possession of the preliminary investigation on [the] RAF matter."
