JOHANNESBURG - The mayor of Johannesburg, Dada Morero, has announced the formation of the city’s "bomb squad", a team headed by African National Congress (ANC) veteran, Snuki Zikalala.
The task team consists of seasoned public servants brought in to rescue the metro from its current state of decline.
Its main objective is to oversee and ensure the effective implementation of the city’s service delivery plans.
Morero formally launched the "bomb squad" and introduced its members during a media briefing held in Soweto on Thursday.
Zikalala, the ANC Veterans League president and former SABC head of news, has been given the challenging responsibility of helping restore Johannesburg to its former glory.
Morero has unveiled a team of public servants who will work alongside Zikalala as part of the city’s newly formed "bomb squad".
"Members of the 'bomb squad' will comprise of: Dr Snuki Zikalala, Blake Mosley, former city manager and executive of the city Mr Mavela Dlamini, former city manager and executive of the city, Prof. Trevor Fowler, former city manager and executive of the city, Mr Gerald Dumas – former chief operations office."
Most of these officials are already employed in Johannesburg or other municipalities.
Morero said that Zikalala would be the only member receiving a salary, while the rest of the team was volunteering their services.
He emphasised that the team’s mandate was to support and drive existing city departments to enhance service delivery across the metro.
