DURBAN - Disaster management teams in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) have started responding to some of the severe weather-related incidents as the province continues to experience inclement conditions.

Parts of the province have been hit by snow, damaging winds, and heavy rains

This has led to the closure of the N2 highway around the affected areas.

Disaster teams are expected to remain on monitor of the ongoing weather.

As heavy rains accompanied by strong winds continue in parts of the province, disaster teams have had to respond to affected areas.

The heavy rains have caused trees to be uprooted and disrupted traffic on major routes like the busy N3 highway.

KZN Cooperative Governance spokesperson, Senzelwe Mzila, said, “Swift action by disaster management teams has ensured that these disruptions are minimised. Additionally, municipal teams are working in affected communities to clear roads blocked by fallen trees. These teams are also working hard to ensure that power is restored where powerlines have been damaged by falling trees.”

The department said there are areas in the province where wind speeds clocked 110 kilometres per hour.

Residents have been urged to avoid routes that have been closed due to snowfall.
