JOHANNESBURG - A whistleblower in the murder of former African National Congress (ANC) Youth League secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa says the admission of guilt by one of the hitmen is only the halfway mark in the calls for justice.

This is after Sibusiso Ncengwa pleaded guilty to all the charges against him, including murder, conspiracy to murder and ammunition and malicious damage to property.

Magaqa was wounded in an ambush in July 2017 after a hit was put out on the local councillor before he could blow the lid off corruption in uMzimkhulu.

He died at a KwaZulu-Natal hospital in September of the same year.

“We are cautiously jubilant. It didn’t come easy; it’s been a long journey. This is just the halfway mark, and there’s still a long way to go. We appreciate what has happened, but we are still looking for more,” said a whistleblower and friend, Thabiso Zulu.
