DURBAN - The N2 highway between Port Shepstone and Kokstad in KwaZulu-Natal has now been reopened.

Southern parts of KwaZulu-Natal have been hit by snow since Monday night, while most parts experienced heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms.

The Department of Transport in the province said it dispatched graders to clear snowfall that blocked parts of the national route.

“The N2 between Port Shepstone and Kokstad is very clear. It is because of the manner in which the team worked together to execute our snowfall response measures and ensured the implementation,” said spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya.

He said the department is closely monitoring weather patterns and warnings so that they are able to respond to challenges timeously.

“We are interacting with SA Weather Service to ensure that we are able to respond with a high sense of urgency to any call for us to protect communities and motorists in order to save lives.”
