JOHANNESBURG - Judgment is expected to be handed down in the Johannesburg High Court on Thursday in a case of a woman accused of raping and killing her stepdaughter.
Amber Lee Hughes was arrested two years ago after four-year-old Nada-Jane Chalita's body was found in a bathtub in their home.
Hughes, a former preschool teacher, has pleaded not guilty to all accounts.
Hughes was allegedly the last person left in the house with the little girl on 23 January 2023.
Hughes was charged with the rape and murder of the four-year-old.
Child protection activist, Robyn Vorster, said that some of the evidence in the case suggested that the little girl endured sexual assault for a long period.
Voster said that this case had now highlighted the need for female preschool teachers to be thoroughly assessed.
