DURBAN - A baby narrowly escaped a shootout unharmed in Durban on Friday afternoon.
Police shot and killed four suspects during the incident in Inanda, north of Durban.
It’s believed one of the suspects killed is the infant’s father.
Police managed to recover the baby and brought her to safety while a standoff ensued.
Eyewitness News has learnt about the shocking details of how a shootout ensued in the presence of a baby, who is believed to be just a few months old.
Sources say the father of the child was seen shooting at police officers, who also returned fire.
But after spotting the baby, officers moved in and managed to snatch the baby from the man’s arms
Police also recovered two firearms from the scene.
Some families of the victims were spotted on the scene; however, they refused to speak to the media.
