CAPE TOWN - A Cape Town teacher accused of sexually grooming a grade 7 learner at her school is applying for bail at the Mitchells Plain Magistrates Court on Monday.

She is accused of sending sexually provocative text messages and explicit videos to the primary school pupil.

She was arrested at her home earlier in June.

The teacher emerged from the holding cells on Monday, wearing a mask covering her face.

She’s facing two counts, one of sexually grooming a child and exposure to pornography.

Investigating Officer Roland Peter was on the stand testifying against releasing her on bail.

However, Peter conceded that the accused was not a flight risk, a first-time offender, and unlikely to interfere with witnesses and jeopardise the case.

The magistrate said the State had not proven its case as to why the accused should not be released on bail.

The bail application continues.
