JOHANNESBURG – Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis has named her final 23-player Banyana Banyana squad for the 2025 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The African champions have been drawn into Group B, alongside Ghana, Mali, and Tanzania, at the event taking place from July 5 to 26.
The final squad was announced on Monday following a training camp in Johannesburg that began on 19 June with an initial 28-player group. That list has now been reduced to the final 23.
However, Banyana Banyana will be without star forward and former CAF Women’s Player of the Year Thembi Kgatlana.
The team will open its campaign against Ghana on 7 July, followed by matches against Tanzania (11 July) and Mali (14 July), with the top two teams from each group, plus the best two third-placed sides, progressing to the quarterfinals.
