KZN ActionSA satisfied with police probe after shooting at political gathering

DURBAN - ActionSA in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) says it's satisfied with police investigations following a shooting incident during a party event in the province.

Last week, party leader Herman Mashaba was meant to launch a new branch at the Kennedy Road informal settlement; however, proceedings were quickly interrupted when gunshots were fired at the venue.

The accused, Sanele Dlamini, appeared in the Durban Magistrates Court on Tuesday, facing charges including intimidation, pointing a firearm and discharging it in a public area.

Provincial party leader Zakhele Mncwango has pointed to political intolerance as the reason for the incident

“We always worried about our safety as leaders in KZN, especially we know that there’s political intolerance and political killings in our province. I am one of those leaders who always speaks on issues that many fear to speak on.”

Mncwango further commended the police's efforts.

“As ActionSA, we are happy that the state has added a third charge of intimidation because we strongly believe that what he has done on that day did intimidate many of our members.”
