JOHANNESBURG - Mayor of Johannesburg Dada Morero has described the motion of no-confidence against him as a plot to destabilise his administration.
Morero is facing a Democratic Alliance (DA)-sponsored no-confidence vote on Wednesday, just 10 months since his election to the top position.
The DA claims its decision to file the motion was prompted by its perception that Morero is incapable of saving the city from its declining state.
Addressing the council on Wednesday afternoon, Morero said the latest attempt to axe him was malicious.
“Like I said, we are here today [Wednesday] because of a democratic process, not because these motions of no confidence that aim to destabilise the City of Johannesburg.”
DA regional leader Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku said something has to be done about the metro’s leadership.
“We all know the city has collapsed under this current coalition, which is led by the executive mayor. He has become a mayor that is rogue. We have now seen a bomb squad that he has appointed without council approval, without consulting any of the political parties.”
