JOHANNESBURG - Crime Intelligence boss Dumisani Khumalo is currently before the Pretoria Magistrates Court alongside six senior-ranking South African Police Service (SAPS) officials.
Khumalo was arrested on Thursday upon landing at OR Tambo International Airport by members of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption.
He and his co-accused are facing four counts of corruption and fraud pertaining to the appointment of Dineo Mokwele last year, as the technical support system manager within crime intelligence.
Mokwele was given the position of brigadier, despite not having any knowledge or skills in policing.
Seven senior-ranking officials from the SA’s embattled Crime Intelligence Unit are currently applying for bail in the Pretoria Magistrates Court.

Khumalo, the unit's CFO, Philani Lushaba, Precious Madondo, head of the Analysis Centre, Josias Lekalakala, Gauteng head of Crime Intelligence, Zwelitini Gabela of SAPS Technology Services, Cynthia Ncube, head of the Vetting Office and Dineo Mokwele, a technical support system manager, are facing charges of corruption and fraud.
According to the charge sheet, the accused acted with a common purpose in appointing Mokwele as a brigadier within crime intelligence for the position of technical support system manager, despite her not having any skills in policing.
Mokwele was appointed last year.
The State claims she included false information on her CV and that misrepresentations were made by her co-accused during the vetting process, resulting in her getting an unauthorised security clearance.
The State is unopposed to bail.
