The 80-metre hotel with 23 storeys and 213 rooms has been sold for around R240 million to R300 million to a large, family-owned international brand.

The Ritz Hotel in Sea Point, Cape Town, has been sold for between R240 million and R300 million to a large, family-owned international brand.

The 23-storey hotel has 213 rooms and has been closed since 2018.

The Ritz was famed for its design, including its revolving restaurant, giving patrons a breathtaking 360-degree view.

Property broker Ash Müller shared interesting details about the hotel on social media and explained a story from Madiba's stay at the once-renowned hotel:

"Just to see what it looks like inside of this video... It's trashed. Who knows what's going to happen to The Ritz... it was award-winning."

Hough explains that his latest work is with journalist Vivian Warby, with whom he went to the abandoned Ritz Hotel to capture some 'extraordinary' pictures.

"It's all just like dead birds and bird poop," says Hough.
