JOHANNESBURG - Section 56 managers at the Tshwane Municipality said they intend to finish their terms amid reports they were “irregularly hired”.
Section 56 managers are senior municipal employees whose appointments have to be approved by the council.
Managers approved during the Democratic Alliance (DA)-led administration are now facing the chop following a letter by Cooperative Governance MEC Jacob Mamabolo, flagging some irregularities around their appointments.
At a media briefing on Thursday, Tshwane City Manager Johan Mettler, whose head is also on the chopping block, said they will fully comply with any investigations into their hiring.
“We have performed exceptionally well and each and every single political party is in fact on record as acknowledging the exceptional performance of this administration, and we intend to continue, improve, and hang around to see our terms out.”
