JOHANNESBURG - A 37-year-old man is still missing following a reported shark incident at Mfazazana, on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast.
The South African Police Services (SAPS), along with police K9 search and rescue, were alerted of the incident on Friday afternoon.
It’s understood three local fishermen were in the water when one disappeared under the water after a shark was sighted nearby.
One friend tried to come to his rescue but retreated to the shoreline when two sharks approached.
National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, said that they believe the sharks were feeding on a school of sardines at the time.
"On Saturday police K9 search and rescue and wpds, assisted by NSRI Shelley Beach, continued in search operations. Police have opened an investigation and are continuing in an ongoing search.”
