CAPE TOWN - The Mitchells Plain Magistrates Court is expected to hear arguments on Thursday in the bail hearing of a Cape Town teacher accused of sexually grooming a grade 7 pupil.

The 35-year-old woman, who cannot be named due to the nature of the case, is accused of sending an explicit video and messages to a 13-year-old primary school learner in May.

Her lawyer has previously told the court that the messages do not prove sexual grooming, and the teacher will plead not guilty when her case go to trial.

Last week, the Mitchells Plain Magistrate's Court heard of a problematic article published by a media house, containing information not yet heard before the court.

The court also heard that the article named the accused before she could plead.

On Thursday, it's understood that the victim will testify in the teacher's bail hearing.

Then, the State and the defence will present their closing arguments before bail judgement is handed down.

The court has received a petition from concerned residents, pleading for bail to be denied.
