BARBERTON - The family of the late former Deputy President David Mabuza will receive his remains on Friday afternoon ahead of his funeral on Saturday.

A guard of honour will be held to usher Mabuza’s remains into his homestead in Barberton in Mpumalanga.

Mabuza died in hospital last week after battling a short illness.

It hasn’t been an easy week for Mabuza’s family, who now have to imagine a life without a man with whom they shared many unforgettable moments.

As they prepare to bid farewell to a father, a husband and friend to many, they family said it remains difficult to come to terms with his passing.

With a guard of honour scheduled to take place on Friday afternoon, family spokesperson Desmond Moela said Mabuza’s children didn’t think they’d lay their father to rest so soon.

“We are encouraging all South Africans and citizens to also participate in the guard of honour, which has been approved by the family. Immediately after a guard of honour there will be a church service which will start around 18h00.”

Mabuza will be laid to rest during a private burial ceremony at his hometown on Saturday.
