DURBAN - National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola said that an investigation into the deputy commissioner for crime detection, Shadrack Sibiya, would inform a way forward for the South African Police Service (SAPS) amid scathing allegations of political interference in high-profile murder cases.
Sibiya has been ordered to take a leave of absence, as he has been implicated in meddling with investigations.
Sibiya was implicated in wrongdoing by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi in a media briefing two weeks ago.

Police said that an internal fact-finding process had started work on investigating the allegations by Mkhwanazi.
And while the allegations are subject to a commission of inquiry, tasked by President Cyril Ramaphosa, the police are doing their own investigation internally.
When asked what the future holds for Sibiya, this is what Masemola said: "Internal investigation will determine as what the next course of action will be taken. I can’t pre-empt. Probably the internal investigation can say: 'No, there’s nothing, come back and continue working' or if there are other things, there will be other processes that will follow."
Meanwhile, Sibiya insisted that he had nothing to hide.
