CAPE TOWN - Metro police have cracked down on drug distribution in Steenberg, Hanover Park, and Bellville in Cape Town.

Police arrested five suspects across the Cape Metropole for the possession of drugs.

Members confiscated a total of 13 packets of Tik, 49 mandrax tablets, and 117 units of heroin.

Three suspects were arrested in Steenberg, one in Hanover Park, and another in Bellville.

MMC for Safety and Security JP Smith assured that those who report remain anonymous.

“Arresting those with illegal possession of drugs is stopping further distribution of drugs, which could destroy innocent lives and serious crimes being committed. We’d like to encourage communities to inform officers of any criminal activities they know of. Our officers will continue to work with other law enforcement agencies, neighbourhood watches, and the South African police.”

Smith added that through working together, law enforcement and the community can bring criminals to justice.

“The presence of our officers in communities during enforcement patrols is effective in arresting suspects. Officers often receive information from members of the community on illegal activity, and the swift reaction and follow-up results in successful arrests. This is an example of how the community can assist the city in making the communities safer and get criminals off the streets and out of the community.”
