DURBAN - Protesting Hammarsdale residents, west of Durban, are calling for the immediate removal of their local police station commander for failing to address crime.
Frustrated community members said the area is plagued by house break-ins, robberies and murders.
The group took to the streets on Wednesday, burning rubble and demanding government heed their call
Community Policing Forum (CPF) representative Etienne Olivier: "The community are currently very unhappy about the role that SAPS is playing in this area, crime has been on the increase, murders have been on the increase, and they are asking for radical reform at the station."
He said safety concerns are rife.
"The community just feels that it’s rising too rapidly for their liking, and they are standing together now, saying enough is enough, we want change."
