JOHANESBURG - There’ve been some heated moments during proceedings at the Roodepoort Magistrates Court on Wednesday as Tiffany Nicole Meek’s lawyer tried to poke holes in the testimony of a State witness.

Meek is accused of murdering her 11-year-old son, Jayden Lee.

He was discovered in the Fluerhof complex a day after his mother had reported him missing in May.

Investigating officer, Nceba Diko, has been on the stand for the past three days, presenting the police’s findings to the court.

During the gruelling court proceedings on Wednesday, Tiffany Meek’s lawyer, Novel Naidoo, tried to find flaws in the arguments made by Sergeant Diko earlier in the bail hearing.

Naidoo pressed him on the notion that it was unsafe for Meek to be released on bail.

"You have fears and concerns for the accused's safety, correct? If the accused is willing to be granted bail, and she will go reside with her mother," Naidoo said.

Diko responded: "I'll oppose and leave it to the court to decide, based on those reasons that you were referring to."

Naidoo continued: "But her mother's address is still an option available to her. Do you agree with that?"

Diko: "That is you telling me that. Myself, I'm saying, because at the end of the day, we want justice to be served."

Meek’s mother and brother, as well as some activists, were present in the public gallery

Proceedings are expected to continue for the rest of the week.
