CAPE TOWN - The case against the alleged killers of seven-year-old Lolitha Kowa from Kuyasa in Khayelitsha has been postponed to next Friday.
Odwa Jack and Nokuthula Matyeseni appeared briefly before the Khayelitsha Magistrate's Court on Friday.
They're charged with the rape and murder of the little girl, whose body was discovered near her home in Kuyasa on Wednesday.
The court heard that Odwa Jack was linked to Lolitha’s rape and murder after blood stains believed to be that of the little girl were found inside a taxi that he drives.
Nokuthula Matyeseni is also linked to the case after blood was also found on a mop and floor of her house in Kuyasa.
The pair had indicated to the court that they wanted to represent themselves in the matter, however, after Magistrate Brendale Abrahams explained to them what this meant, they opted for Legal Aid representation.
"The matter itself is now remanded to the 1st of August for your full criminal profiles to be verified by the State and you both remain in custody until then."
Khayelitsha residents gathered outside the court said they were opposed to the pair being granted bail.
