JOHANNESBURG - The Rooderpoort Magistrate's Court has called out murder-accused mother, Tiffany Nicole Meek, saying that she deliberately misled the court in relation to her son’s death.

Meek, who has been linked to her son Jaydon-Lee Meek’s death in May, was denied bail on Tuesday after her legal team attempted to poke holes in the State’s case.

Magistrate Anneline Africa outlined 24 factors which she claimed were shared by Meek to mislead the court.

The long bail application, dubbed as a mini-trial by Meek’s lawyer, was marked by intense emotions.

A visibly distraught Meek broke down as the magistrate handed down her judgment.

Magistrate Africa said that Meek was an unsuitable bail candidate, with the ability to undermine or jeopardise the objectives of the criminal justice system.

"Honesty in bail proceedings is of utmost importance, as the lack thereof may undermine the integrity of the bail system and is punishable by law. Courts are therefore more likely to deny bail if it believes that the applicant is not truthful and may be a flight risk or influence witnesses or interfere with investigations."

The case is set to return to court on 17 September.
