KZN COGTA MEC hails breakthrough in murder case of Umngeni councillor Nhlalayenza Ndlovu

Two suspects, a 26-year-old man and a 56-year-old traditional leader were arrested by the SAPS political killings task team on Wednesday in connection with the murder.

JOHANNESBURG - KwaZulu-Natal COGTA MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi has hailed a breakthrough in the murder case of Umngeni councillor, Nhlalayenza Ndlovu, following the arrest of two more suspects.
 
The 26-year-old suspect and 56-year-old traditional leader were arrested by the SAPS political killings task team on Wednesday in connection with the murder.
 
Ndlovu was gunned down in front of his family at his home near Mpophomeni in December 2023.
 
The two suspects are appearing at the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court on Thursday on charges of conspiracy to commit murder, murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
 
The pair joins two suspects who were previously arrested and charged for the murder.
 
Buthelezi welcomed the arrests, stating that they bring a crucial breakthrough in the ongoing investigation.
 
Spokesperson Senzelwa Mzila: "The MEC has called upon the prosecution to pursue justice without fear or favour, aiming to deter anyone from participating in the attacks that have plagued the province, resulting in the murders of councillors and amakhosi and izinduna."
 
The total number of arrests made in connection to the case to date is five.
