JOHANNESBURG - South Africa will make history next year as it hosts the 2025 IWBF 3x3 World Championships - the first time the tournament is being held on African soil.

The tournament will take place from 1–3 August 2025 at the Superbowl Sun Arena in Sun City.

This landmark event will welcome 22 teams from around the world across the men’s and women’s competitions, showcasing the fast-paced, dynamic format of 3x3 wheelchair basketball on the international stage.

Following the withdrawals of both Libya and the Islamic Republic of Iran, the men’s competition will now feature 14 teams, divided into two groups of five and one group of four.

Each team will compete in round-robin group play, with the top teams advancing to the knockout rounds.

SA men’s team will compete in Pool B against Australia, Poland, Malaysia, and Slovenia.

Meanwhile, the women’s competition will continue with eight teams, following the withdrawal of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In their place, a South Africa B team has been added to take their place in Group B, which means both women’s pools will remain at four teams each.
