JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) admitted that some of its deployees across the country’s municipalities are simply not up to scratch.

This, as its national executive committee (NEC) deliberates on the state of local government, among other pressing issues, at its 4-day meeting.

Dr Kgosientso Ramokgopa told journalists at the sidelines of the NEC that the party had some self-criticism when it came to the appointment at the municipal level.

Mismanagement has been a core issue across some of the country’s municipalities, with several now on the brink of collapse.

The Auditor General announced earlier this year that only 41 out of 257 councils received a clean audit

Ramokgopa said the NEC believes a change of tact is necessary.

"We’ve accepted that the quality of the deployees, especially in municipalities, leaves a lot to be desired, so it's important that we rethink how we deploy people to some of our major metros, secondary cities, and local municipalities", said Ramokgopa.
