DURBAN - KwaZulu-Natal’s disaster management teams have been activated and placed on high alert for veld fires.
The SA Weather Service is forecasting a high risk of veld fires over the next two days.
The Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) spokesperson, Senzelwe Mzila, explained: “Dry, warm, and windy conditions, with gusts exceeding 40 km/h and low humidity, are creating ideal conditions for the rapid ignition and spread of fires.”
Mzila added that various municipalities are at risk of being affected.
“The MEC Buthelezi has appealed to all residents to be vigilant and follow these essential safety measures.”
