DURBAN - The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport has cautioned motorists to be vigilant on roads after six people died in two car crashes.

A motorist was burned beyond recognition in an accident that claimed five lives in the Bergville area on Sunday morning, while on Sunday night, another car burned with one occupant inside on the N2 highway near Mthunzini and Fairbreeze mine.

Ndabezihle Sibiya, the spokesperson for Transport MEC Siboniso Duma: "The MEC has once again expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims. A team from his office, as well as the department, is in touch with the families of the people that were injured, especially those that died in the accident in Bergville."

He added that authorities were also still trying to locate the families of the victims.

"We are currently locating the family of the person that died in the accident on the N2."
