CAPE TOWN - Instead of receiving gifts on its 33rd anniversary, the humanitarian aid organisation Gift of the Givers is giving back to the needy.
The organisation donated 15 computers to the Athlone School for the Blind on Wednesday as part of their anniversary celebrations.
The school is the largest and oldest of its kind, serving visually impaired learners since 1927.
The Athlone School for the Blind, situated in Bellville, has 287 pupils from Grade R to Grade 12.
Gift of the Givers' Ali Sablay said the computers would ensure that visually impaired students received the necessary digital literacy training.
"The school raised a concern with us, they had a dream of having blind-friendly computers for their computer lab, as many learners after their matric find it very difficult at universities and finding work as they do not have the necessary computer skills."
He said that their relationship with the school dates back 14 years.
