JOHANNESBURG - Three men accused of killing former Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Member of Parliament (MP) Khetha Sithole are expected to apply for bail on Thursday.

It’s alleged that on the evening of 31 May, they fatally shot Sithole and injured two other IFP members during a ward meeting at the Buyafuthi Hostel in Katlehong, east of Johannesburg.

The trio will be appearing before the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court, where they each stand accused of one count of murder and two of attempted murder.

Khethokuhle Sithole, Ntando Ximba and Bhekokuhle Sithole are alleged to be behind the assassination of Sithole.

At this stage, it is unclear whether the three men with the Sithole surname share any relation.

The accused trio initially abandoned their bail applications, however, they have since changed their minds.

IFP Gauteng leader, Bonginkosi Dhlamini, said the party wanted to know the truth.

"We are interested because why should you choose an IFP meeting to kill an IFP leader. What is your motive?"

The IFP said the two members who were also shot during the incident had been released from hospital and were recovering at home.
