JOHANNESBURG - Electricity and Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said that more power was being generated due to the recovery of Eskom’s supply systems.
In a state of electricity grid update on Wednesday, the minister reassured the country that the utility was working its way out of the woods of load shedding.
With the energy availability factor improving from 55% last year to 70% this year, Ramokgopa said this showed that plants were maintaining a stable power supply.
"There are periods in the week where we have to put the machines in cold reserve. Cold reserve means we are generating more than what the demand is. And to protect the grid, we must pull back some of the machines who are in that situation. It's a better situation to be in when you are generating more than what the demand is."
