The Pretoria High Court has stated that the Zambian government was entitled to repatriate the body of the late president Edgar Lungu, and ordered the family to surrender it to authorities.
However, the family is appealing this judgement, saying Lungu wished to be buried in South Africa.
Lungu died on 5 June after suffering cardiac complications from a surgery at Mediclinic Medforum in Pretoria.
The family’s appeal is set to be heard on Friday.

Chisanga says most Zambians he has spoken to want to have the former president buried at home, and to receive the same treatment as other former presidents.
“The family have their own opinion on the issue, but the Zambian people are looking at the bigger picture.”
