JOHANNESBURG - The City of Ekurhuleni claims to have finally resolved its long-standing billing crisis, which recently cost the municipality over R2 billion in revenue.
Earlier this year, Eyewitness News exposed a syndicate involving more than 1,600 households that were undercharged for electricity, leading to the massive revenue shortfall.

The metro now reports that its meter-reading systems are operating at nearly full capacity after being tampered with.
Addressing a media briefing in Germiston today, Ekurhuleni Mayor Doctor Xhakaza said significant progress had been made.
"Significant investment in our systems, and returning the function to its parent department, our automated meter reading accuracy now stands at an impressive 97%, compared to the 84% when the function was taken over by ICT. This is a critical achievement. It means residents can have confidence that their meters are being read correctly, billed accurately and fairly for the services they use."
