JOHANNESBURG - The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) government has assured that 130 houses out of 1,200 under construction for KZN flood victims will be completed by December.
The assurance was made during an oversight visit by the provincial government at the construction site.
Thousands of families in the province are currently housed at temporary residential units after they were displaced by the 2022 floods that also claimed the lives of over 400 people.
The recent February 2025 floods also took a hard hit on many other families.
Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli said he’s satisfied with the progress made to date.
"The MEC for Human Settlement - MEC Duma and his entire team are working, they are on the ground as you can see - when I requested to come and inspect the progress I got them here on site working and the work you see is confirming that by December we will have more than 100 families being relocated to this place."
Ntuli said the entire project should be completed by the end of next year.
"And the timeframe to December next year is for everyone who is a victim to have a permanent shelter."
