Taxi torched metres away from Maponya Mall

JOHANNESBURG - A taxi has been torched metres away from Maponya Mall, where groups of people are protesting.
Onlookers allege there was a mob that ran after a taxi driving slowly through the barricaded road.
The incident comes after two e-hailing cars were torched on Wednesday night.
One driver died and two others were injured.

The eyewitnesses, who are afraid to speak to the media, allege that the driver of the taxi was forcefully removed from the vehicle.
The suspects then allegedly took money left in the vehicle before setting it alight.
The incident occurred while protestors outside the mall complained that the Transport MEC had not addressed them or the family.
“They’re letting us down, they know this issue, this is the most useless department - the Department of Transport, because they are doing nothing. They know people are fighting, and what do they do? Nothing.
The police’s forensic teams are currently at the crime scene.
