DURBAN - The KwaZulu-Natal human settlements department has vowed that no flood victims would be left homeless, adding that they would all be housed by the end of next year.
Thousands of flood victims who lost their homes after the devastating 2022 floods are currently living in temporary housing provided by government.
However, with a project underway to build 1,200 homes in Cornubia, north of Durban, the provincial government said they would all have permanent homes.
Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma: “The issue of temporary accommodation (TAs) will be a thing of the past because the flood victims will be accommodated as from now onwards."
Duma said that a school would also be built in the new community.
"We’ve also consolidated a strategy that education process will be accommodated, there is a school that will be built nearby so that they don’t have a problem."
