CAPE TOWN - Twelve people, including four Egyptian nationals, have been arrested for the murder of a 33-year-old man in Riversdale in the Southern Cape.
The group is accused of ransacking and assaulting people at the victim's house on Tuesday night.
Police said the accused then took a TV set, 3 cell phones, and a handbag before fleeing the scene.
Southern Cape police said they responded to calls of violence around 11 p.m. on Tuesday and discovered that one of the occupants of the house was missing.
A search party was launched, and some of the accused were arrested 40 to 90 kilometres away from Riversdale with the stolen items and sharp objects in their possession.
Police said more arrests were made at a farm in Riversdale, where the body of the deceased was found with several wounds to his head and body.
Police said this could possibly be a retaliation attack for the murder of a 25-year-old Egyptian man over the past weekend.
The accused appeared in the Riversdale Magistrates Court on Friday on murder, kidnapping, and house robbery charges.
