JOHANNESBURG - Lawyers of former Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula are contemplating filing an application to have her corruption charges dropped.

By the end of Monday’s court proceedings, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula was in tears when the judge announced her case would be postponed again.

It's been over a year and four months since the 68-year-old was arrested, ultimately ending her political career.

Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)'s Investigating Directorate against Corruption (IDAC), Henry Mamothame, said the state has handed over the dockets requested by the defence.

“Her attorney indicated that they may file representations with the office of the national director of public prosecutions pending the outcome of the consultation process.  The state and the defence attorney have also agreed that this date (21 November) would be provisionally used for pretrial, should the defence not decide to not make any further applications pending the outcome of their consultation, she remains out on R50k bail.”

The matter has been adjourned to the 21st of November for pretrial processes.
