JOHANNESBURG - Mayibuye national convenor, Floyd Shivambu, said that a process to draft party documents would begin now after wrapping up consultations.

This follows a decision to launch the organisation as both a movement and party seeking to contest the upcoming local government elections.

Shivambu took to Durban on Sunday for the final leg of the consultation process after establishing Mayibuye in June.

He said that the meeting with KwaZulu-Natal volunteers had kick-started the next phase, including talks on the Mayibuye constitution and founding statement.

"We have not yet started writing the documents of Afrika Mayibuye, but we are going to start immediately after this consultation because all provinces would have been captured. We do not want to have afterthoughts and only want to integrate the perspectives of people after we have started writing documents."

Shivambu said the service delivery challenges plaguing KwaZulu-Natal and the rest of the country needed to be addressed urgently.

"We know of the challenges that confront the people of KZN and we know that a majority of areas are left underdeveloped."
