CAPE TOWN - A man has been shot and killed at Overcome Heights, in Muizenberg, Cape Town, as police conduct search and seizure operations in the vicinity.
Deadly gang violence has seen a spike in the greater Muizenberg area recently.
At least seven people were shot and killed in separate incidents in Xakabantu informal settlement and Overcome Heights last week.
More police have been deployed in the Muizenberg area following multiple mass shootings in the past week.
However, the heightened police visibility did not stop the fatal shooting of a man in Overcome Heights on Tuesday afternoon.
Provincial police commissioner Thembisile Patekile addressed reporters during a search and seizure operation in neighbouring Steenberg.
"The scene is still live, and there are people on the scene now. We wouldn't know what the motive is. It happened before the operation started there."
Patekile said police officers would remain in the area until calm is restored.
